The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has issued guidance to its surveyors describing what is required for the approval of home dialysis modalities.
According to CMS, for each home dialysis modality for which an ESRD facility is applying, there must be
at least one patient on census (and/or their caregiver), who is in the process of being trained or has been
trained by the facility interdisciplinary team (IDT).
