What are the CIHQ requirements for graduate medical education programs?
Answer:
The Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality (CIHQ) standards address graduate medical education programs at MS-10. If the hospital participates in graduate medical education programs (GME), the hospital along with the medical staff must assure the following:
- There must be a written document describing the scope of patient care rendered by individuals enrolled in GME; this includes levels of physician supervision as appropriate
- A policy must be developed and implemented that addresses documentation in the medical record by GME participants, including who may write patient care orders and entries that must be co-signed by a supervising physician must be identified.
- The hospital must develop and implement processes to identify and address patient safety and/or quality-of-care issues arising from care given by GME participants.
