October is upon us and our thoughts turn to friends and family who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Other than skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women. The American Cancer Society’s estimates for breast cancer in the United States for 2021 are as follows:
- Approximately 281,550 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women
- Approximately 49,290 new cases of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) will be diagnosed.
- About 43,600 women will die from breast cancer.
Breast cancer is sometimes found after symptoms appear, but many women with breast cancer have no symptoms. This is why regular breast cancer screening is so important. Learn more.
Although not very common, men also get breast cancer. About 1 out of every 100 breast cancers diagnosed in the United States are found in a man.
You can help reduce your risk of cancer by making healthy choices such as eating right, staying active, and not smoking. It’s also important to follow recommended screening guidelines, which can help detect certain cancers early.
MCN Healthcare stands with the courageous women and men who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, and we honor those who have lost their battle to breast cancer.
